EXHIBITION

PARADISE

From 8 December 2023 to 28 February 2024.

OLLL on display at the Château l’Hospitalet Art Space

Lights, please! Thus the artist Olll seems to invite us into the space of his exhibition at Château l’Hospitalet. Let there be light, then, beginning with the neon works and luminous jewels of Philippe Gourdon, who leads us, outwitting darkness, to turn our gaze towards clarity.

A proposition serving as an introductory first act to the Paradise that follows.

The prolific Paradise installation orchestrated by OLLL is an absolute must-see.

Paradise? Is it in response to the challenges and excesses of our age that Olll probes and fearlessly unsettles our relationship with time, mortality and spirituality?
Mocking convention, he plays upon our inhibitions with irreverence and
mischief, ultimately questioning the limits of our humanity.

Tattooed skin, ageing skin, smooth skin… jewelled skulls, flesh and bone align, multiply and gleam, revealing a riot of colour.

A series of whimsical pigs seem to float in the promise of an afterlife, as though weightless.

A Christ hangs at the apex of a curve: a fall, the first stirrings of a celestial ascent, or the vertigo of a bungee jump? To each their own curves; the rest lies in our imaginations.

From one work to the next, Olll carries us from humour to wonder, with cheek or caustic dread. By making his subjects shine, perhaps so that we may see them more clearly, Olll questions without ever passing judgement, seemingly delighting in leading us to the edge of the abysses of our age and our own thoughts.

Provocative and mischievous, the artist barely conceals himself behind each of his works, playfully unsettling our states of mind (unless he dreams of restoring our souls to order?). One must experience and see the exhibition to judge for oneself, with a smile on one’s lips and an alert mind!

After visiting the Art Space and wandering through the château’s cellars,
the visit concludes at the Jazz Bar, in a joyfully
mocking spirit.

This new exhibition is also the fruit of a beautiful friendship, that which binds Gérard Bertrand, master of the house, to Olivier Domin, to whom he has given carte blanche to open the gates of paradise for us.

And do not forget to put on your winged shoes for the occasion!

About OLLL

OLLL, whose real name is Olivier Domin, is a French painter of international stature.

Each of his exhibitions is staged and conceived as an experience in its own right, finely orchestrated according to the spaces he inhabits and the possible resonances with current events. OLLL boldly captures the public’s attention, and all the better if this calls for a deftly measured touch of irreverence that has become his signature.

He has painted and exhibited from a very young age. Year after year, he has developed a distinctive style combining traditional painting techniques with collage and other creative audacities.

On OLLL’s canvases, vivid colours become matter, texture, relief and contrast. He is particularly known for his portraits, which bring out the personality of his subjects while exploring themes of identity and popular culture. With no limits, he also readily employs other artistic forms—sculpture, reworked photographs, monumental paintings and hybrid works—all in the service of his caustic view of human vanities and humanity’s relationship with the divine.

Opening hours:

7 days a week

PHILIPPE GOURDON

Philippe Gourdon describes himself as an explorer of light. His practice belongs to the lineage of the lumino-kinetic movement, yet unlike his predecessors, he uses a digital approach to numerically simulate movements of light without resorting to the motorisation used in the past. His work consists of animating lines of light, distorting and transfiguring them through multiple compositions.

His works are in constant motion, evolving from simple forms to more complex assemblages, evoking a contemplative meditation that soothes the mind and transports one into another reality.
